Poverty in Singapore(SUMIKO)
Through today's lesson, I learnt about looking into things better if you have a solid background of whatever the thing is about and also some of our classmates' attitude. Mainly when we were grouped up in the decision we have for the scenario, I realized that most of us do not trust easily and I was one of them. I hope that I would learn more to trust and to not be so suspicious. And about having a background on something we will come upon, I think it is pretty important to know as it will lessen so much more unnecessary misunderstandings.
Poverty in Singapore is just like something invisible but they still exist, maybe our knowledge of the poor in Singapore will not be that good as we don't really see beggars walking up to you and asking for money(I often get shock when I am overseas), the most extreme example is most probably having someone sit on the floor with a bowl before him however they do not walk towards passer-bys. The more common examples are old aunties and uncles selling tissues, the handicapped performing in streets. However this do not really make us think if poor to that extend they can't do anything, they earn with their effort. Poverty exists in Singapore however the situation in Singapore is much better as they can rely on the government, campaigns and donations as this are sources they can rely on (no matter how little). I believe that Singapore has to know about the poor people living and not follow the world to have a misconception that since Singapore is a expensive country, everyone is rich. We are Singaporeans we have to know what is going on in Singapore. And we have to reach out to the poor and help them in any way we can.
